The Pinacoteca, situated in the centre of Milan just minutes from the Teatro della Scala, is one of Italy's most important national museums. Its collection includes masterpieces by Mantegna, Bellini, Titian, Veronese, Piero della Francesca, Raphaël, Caravaggio and Rembrandt. Founded by Napoleon in 1809, the museum was recently granted operational autonomy as part of the revitalization of the country's major museums.
