African Book Trust (ZA) A Project of A | KBFUS Funds
To support community and school libraries, to promote a culture of reading, and to preserve South African stories by making sure they are widely available to the public.
The African Book Trust supports libraries in schools and communities across South Africa, by raising funds to donate books that reflect our national experiences.
The African Book Trust is a new non-profit that aims to support community and school libraries, to promote a culture of reading, and to preserve South African stories by making sure they are widely available to the public.
Our goals are:
- To give South African books to libraries across the country
- To support South African authors by increasing purchases of local books
- To promote a culture of reading through libraries
South Africa's government has committed to building thousands of new school and community libraries, but existing libraries are often poorly resourced and lack books. The African Book Trust aims to help solve that problem by creating a system for selecting, buying and giving books to schools and libraries.
Our focus is on South African literature, but we will also work with books from around Africa and the diaspora. We will choose an annual collection of books that will be available to beneficiaries, buy the books and make sure the books reach the libraries.
Support libraries in South Africa.
