Support refugees by donating to SB Overseas

Donations to SB Overseas directly support education, empowerment, and emergency aid.

SB Overseas (BE) A Project of S | KBFUS Funds

Imagine having to leave everything behind, having your house destroyed and your city made uninhabitable. When the only option is to leave, the world is full of uncertainty. Especially for families, being forced to become a refugee brings a multitude of challenges, from legal questions to hungry kids to trying to maintain hope for the future. Life becomes uncertain, and opportunities that once seemed guaranteed — an education, a job, a safe home to return to — vanish.

Soutien Belge Overseas is an NGO (registered in Belgium) that works to support refugees, both in Belgium, as well as in Turkey and Lebanon. Founded in 2013, SB Overseas is a humanitarian organization focused on emergency aid, education, and empowerment. We work to ensure that refugees have the chance to dream and reach for the future that they deserve.

WHAT WE DO

Lebanon

SB Overseas runs 3 centres for refugees in Lebanon, each of which includes a catch-up school and a women's training center:

  • Our catch-up schools provide 1200 places per year for refugee students who have missed out on years of education as a result of the conflict, so that they can "catch-up" to their level in order to re-enter the public school system.
  • Our women's centers provide over 550 places per year to women and teenage girls on courses in literacy, numeracy, and professional skills, so that they can support themselves and their families.
  • An international volunteering programme allows young people from across the world to come to Lebanon to teach English to our students.

Turkey

SB Overseas is active in providing punctual support to a women's center in Kilis, where there is a large community of refugees. With similar activities as in Lebanon, this center can support the education of around 100 women at a time. We are aiming to expand our presence at this center in the future, ideally to increase our involvement at the women's center, and to include education and catch-up schools.

Belgium

In Belgium, SB Overseas runs various projects, including the Young Belgians, SB Weekend, and SB Campaign.

  • Young Belgians program empowers marginalized Belgian youth through community service projects, events, and even international travel.
  • SB ESPOIR connects local volunteers with unaccompanied minors living in asylum centres in Belgium, providing them with psychosocial support through teambuilding games, art therapy, and sports.
  • SB Campaign aims to collect funds and materials to support our projects in Lebanon and Turkey, to fulfill the needs of the refugees living there, and to promote global solidarity and awareness amongst those living in Belgium.

WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP

You can find more information on our current operations further down this page - but here, we have listed the reasons why we need your continued help, and where you can expect your donation to go:

Lebanon

Since capacity in our centres is limited, there are still thousands of children and women waiting for places in our centres in Lebanon. We need funding to keep these centres open, so that we can eventually provide training and education to every refugee in the vicinity of our centres who is waiting for their opportunity.

Turkey

We need funding to solidify our work in Turkey. We need to transform our women's empowerment programme into a full-time, professionalised service. We have also identified a new and important target population: the thousands of street children living in Kilis and Gaziantep who need education and psychological support.

Belgium

We need support for our headquarters in Brussels, so that we can expand and improve our volunteering activities with refugees, and to support our hard-working staff so we can focus on securing more grants for our projects.
