Father Hermann Schultz started what is now the ETSK Technical High School in 2008, with the big idea of providing job skills. Father Hermann, a German priest trained by the Silesian Order in Italy, started Hameau des Jeunes St. Kizito, a village for homeless children in Musha, Rwanda. At its peak after the Rwandan genocide, the village housed over 1000 children in dire need.
ETSK is a rural boarding high school set on one of the country's thousand hills, above a beautiful lake, just a one-hour drive from Kigali, the capital of Rwanda – a country that many believe to be the future development model for all of Africa. This private vocational high school is for up to 300 motivated boys and girls, teaching the skills necessary to find a job or progress to university on a government scholarship.
AN IMPORTANT MISSION
ETSK's mission is to support Rwanda's growth and to continue Father Hermann's vision in one of the poorest areas of Rwanda, by teaching young people the skills necessary for 100% of them to find a job or enroll in university.
Our new challenge is to become a top trade school in Rwanda, with an emphasis on English proficiency and "self-learning," so that our students can self-adapt to a rapidly modernizing Rwandan economy.
A FABULOUS OPPORTUNITY
It takes a team to build a great school. The base is already there: a competent teaching staff, a motivated administration, and an impressive physical plant. A new Committee for Education Expansion is now organizing the technological innovation to propel the school to be among the best in Rwanda. The Committee is run by two successful American entrepreneurs, an Italian surgeon with 30 years' experience working in Africa, and an Italian psychologist.
